This is the counterpart of the programs and the operating system that can be found inside the Desktop. This is called the software, because it cannot be touched physically. It is just inside the Personal Computer. It is the windows that you use everyday right from the moment that you open the Computer. It is the Microsoft office that you tinker with or the solitaire game that you relax with during lunchtimes. 

Both the Hard ware and software parts of the Desktop Computer is important. The Components is the one that makes all the processes possible. It converts data and presents it in a way that is understandable for  you. The software on the other hand makes it more easier for you to manage and do. The truth is Personal Computers deal with numbers that will completely be alien language to most people. Having these two interact allows you to create files and make use of these processes in your daily life. 

Another important part of the Computer is the people ware which is you  the user. Without someone who will operate the Computer, it will not work. It needs the commands that only you can give whether you do it by typing commands or by clicking the mouse.
