Many people want to know more about universal remote reviews. Are you one of them? If so, you might find the following article helpful in your search for information. We hope you find some useful pointers.
Universal Remotes Reviews

Author: Carl Morton

A 12 months ago, I bought the Harmony 880 Advanced Universal Remote and have loved it so much that I had go and buy another remote in order to have one upstairs as well.Even though there both Harmony 880 and the new Harmony One each control many devices (I have 14 devices working on each), it became a nightmare having to go to a different area of the house to get the remote for a different level.Amazon received the Harmony One remote from Logitech for review, and I was delighted to review it.

The Harmony 880 and the Harmony One are nearly the same in functionality and programming. Both remotes use usb interface to your PC and the Logitech Harmony Remote Software. Both can handle many devices with brilliant ease, allowing users to set up every remote-controlled device in their house. Both remotes can `learn' from the original remote if you are not able to set up a device using the model number. These remotes enjoy a rechargeable docking station.

Where the significant improvements are in the Harmony One over the Harmony 880 are the feel of the device in the hand, the improved backlite buttons that light up in the dark and are easy to see,and a dock that cradles the remote a lot better (making it more difficult for your pets to knock the remote off). Also, with plenty space between buttons on the Harmony One, it is easier to use the remote without looking.

If you are replacing an old Harmony remote, the Logitech Harmony software gives you the chance to `replace' the currently older device with the newer device, transferring your device setup for all the TVs, VCRs, DVRs, etc. to the new remote with hardly any effort at all.

For those who are adding a new remote control, I was a little bit disappointed in the Harmony Remote software. You cannot have several remotes under one Logitech account. You have to set up a different id for each remote. Many people use the same ID for most computer programs and online sites requiring one, and this requirement may cause some trouble for us in the future. I can easily see that the next time I need to set up this remote I may not remember the ID I used to set it up with.

On the bright side, the software really does make it very easy to set up your Tv's, Tivos, DVD players and lots more. If you have the model number of that device, this is the easiest way of seting it up, and with a wide range database of model numbers - including some very old tvs and the like (judging by my own setup), it is a pretty sure-fire way to set up your Harmony One Remote quickly and easily.

Of course, there are times when you simply cannot find the model number for a device. My bedroom television does not have a model number anywhere that I can find it. So, I used the `learn' function on the Harmony One Remote to teach the Logitech device the correct codes, using my original remote from the television. Even if you haven't the original remote, the remotes are still easy to configure using the brand name and the device type (i.e. Sharp TV) in the Harmony software.

Programming custom buttons for devices is very easy. I like to control the volume on my television while the remote is in Tivo mode, so I simply used the TV remote to program the volume buttons on the Harmony One Remote for the specific TV I will use. This procedure is as simple as lining up the two remotes and clicking the button you are configuring, then letting the Logitech software do its magic!

So far, I have configured a variety of devices with this remote easily: TVs, TiVos, DVD players, VCR, Cable Boxes, and an A/V receiver. None were problematic, and all work very well. I highly recommend the Harmony One Remote for anyone who wants to combine all their remotes to one and prefers ease of configuring. Oh, and it looks pretty sharp, too. Especially with my own photographs downloaded to run a pretty screensaver!

Whether or not you agree with the subject matter is up to you, and you are certainly free to make up your own mind about the material presented here.
Universal Remote Controls Simplify Electronics Use

Author: Jeanie Smith

Fed up with finding the remotes of each of your electronic devices, then a universal remote control comes as an easy answer. In general a universal remote is a remote control that can be easily programmed to operate various brands and one or more types of electronics devices such as TV, music system, Air-conditioners and many other devices.

Typically, the low-end universal remotes can only control a set number of devices pre defined by their manufacturer, while the mid- and high-end remote controls allow the user to program in new controls codes to the remote for controlling a number of other devices.

With the increasing use of these remote controls many remotes sold with various electronic devices include universal remote capabilities for other types of device, which allow the remote to control other devices apart from the device it came with.

The universal remote controls can be broadly classified in two types like

Device Based Universal Remote Controls

Most universal remotes that are sold today are device based and they are quite popular. The use of the device-based remote control is simple and the user has to press a button associated with the desired device to control and then uses the remaining buttons to control that single device.

Controlling other devices is also simple as the remote control identifies the other devices when the user presses a different device button and then the remote starts sending command to the new device. An example of a device-based remote is the Home Theater Master line of remotes.

Activity Based Remote Control

These types of the universal remotes are programmed to work on the concept of activities and not on the devices. In this instead of controlling each device individually the user can instead focus on the activity that they want to perform. For instance the user might want to watch a movie, or listen to some music, or just watch TV.

It is when a particular activity is selected the universal remote control may send out the necessary signals and commands to various necessary devices in to turn on and to configure device to accomplish the desired activity. For instance selecting an activity like watch a movie the remote control might turn on the TV, configure the TV to the DVD video input, turn on the amplifier, configure the amplifier to the DVD audio input, turn on the DVD player, and start the DVD playing. One of the most popular activity based remote controls is the Logitech Harmony line of remotes.

The journey with the universal remote control just doesn't stops there, but can continue with the up gradations that are required with the changing electronic devices. That is why many universal controls allow the code lists programmed into the remote to be updated to support new brands or models of devices not currently supported by the remote.

Interestingly the lower end universal remotes accomplish this by allowing audible signals to be sent over a telephone to a receiver on the remote. This is applicable when the user calls customer service, an operator can have the caller place the remote next to the phone's speaker and then send a signal over the telephone to upgrade the remote for any requested new brand of model of supported device type.

These are tough times. And many of us are feeling it in our wallets. But .. No matter how tough times are, we can't forget the basics. And tv remote controls definitely is one of the basics. And, without the basics taken care of, how can you get started?
Below is one of the best articles we have ever read on the subject. It lays everything out nicely, it's easy to read, and, understand, it touches on all of the key issues, and, best of all, when you have finished reading it, you will definitely know which is a very good direction to take given your circumstances.
The Features Of A Samsung LN52C530 HDTV | Samsung LN52C530 Review

Author: Wayne OS

If you are on the lookout for a HDTV set you will find that you are inundated with options. Therefore which should you decide on? One option is the Samsung LN52C530.

If a large wide screen is crucial for you then you'll be pleased to note that this TV boasts a 52 inch wide screen with full HD 1080 pixel picture quality. This is often distinctly clearer than regular HDTV with twice the detail and resolution and it automatically corrects any errors occurring from normal definition content. Therefore the image will continuously be extremely vivid and clear.

Color is especially important to the manufacturers and they have come up with a feature they call Wide Color Enhancer. This uses a unique technology that stretches and saturates every image to show its true potential providing natural and realistic colors. This makes sure that every color on the RGB spectrum is utilised and made as vibrant as possible bringing you a vivid, clear and realistic picture.

Many folks nowadays would like to use their TV set for more than just watching television. There's a feature on this model known as the USB 2.0 Connect Share Movie. You plug in the cord and it permits you to display and manage pictures, videos and music all on your screen. This could be a helpful feature to use when you have got guests and wish to play music or view your latest photos or home videos.

With there being so many high definition technologies out there nowadays a variety of HDMI ports are essential. This model has three HDMI slots permitting you to attach a variety of peripherals without the need to swap them over every time you wish one thing new. There are also a pair of AV slots, a pair of part slots, 1 USB slot and it also has the capability for use alongside your PC. With all these you should never run out of connection options.

One downside with the quantity of technology most folks have in their homes is that each unit has its own remote control. Therefore we will end up with a number of remote controls all round the house making the place look untidy and causing issues when you cannot find the right one. This product has the potential to allow you to use simply one remote control for all of your products from the same manufacturer therefore eliminating this problem.

If you are an environmentally conscientious person then you'll be pleased to be told that the Samsung LN52C530 HDTV plays its half in reducing our carbon footprint. It uses thirtypercent less power than the acceptable limit set by the Energy Star certification criteria.

When looking at the LN52C530 as a whole package the total build, sound and picture characteristic is tremendous. Samsung is acknowledged for producing beautiful TV sets. This unit is no exception to the norm. Definitely a good purchase for your earned dollars. The make available date of the LN52C530 is in June 2010.

If you would like to know more about best universal remote - then you will want to read this article. It includes plenty of information about this subject that is sure to help you better understand the ins and outs that seem to confuse most people. It really does not have to be difficult to understand.

The best universal remote information that follows is one way to look at this information, and after reading the article you are free to form your own opinion. Whether or not you agree with the subject matter is up to you, and you are certainly free to make up your own mind about the material presented here.
About the Harmony 890 Universal Remote

Author: Vikram kuamr

Over the years the Harmony universal remotes have come a long way, from the original Harmony 880 which features a color screen and built in rechargeable battery as well as a docking station. The 880 was very good, in fact, it has captured the hearts of those who love their remote controls. The Harmony 890 also has several large benefits to make it the best of the 800 series of remotes. One such reason would be that the RF allows signals to go right through walls and work on hidden components and have the technology set up multi-room communication.

The Logitech Harmony 890 looks almost exactly like the 880, except that it is lighter in color. It also has the dumbbell shape of the remotes that Logitech made earlier. However, now it has a larger LCD and also has 8 instead of 6 icons that correspond with the eight hard buttons. The Harmony 890 works with a color display of 128X160 pixels, the screen is easy to read and interesting to navigate.

Instead of using the soft rubber buttons on most models of remotes, Logitech has creatively designed all hard plastic buttons of its Harmony 890 with skill and professionalism that Logitech is known for. Now it is easy to set up digital set top boxes, Media center PC’s, DVR’s and many others. All of the buttons have backlights so that you can see your remote when you are in a dark theater or the lights are out.

The Harmony 890 includes a docking station, which charges the already available lithium ion battery. Saving time and money is what this remote does because you don’t have to run to the store for batteries. You may also add backgrounds and screensavers as well as digital images to your remote. The best thing about the 890 remote technologies was the added RF capabilities. Using the RF is as easy. Just plug the RF receiver into an outlet, plug in the IR blaster into the receiver and stick the blasters on the equipment. It will line up the component to be controlled by your Harmony 890 remote. In order to add more components in other rooms such as dimmer switches, climate control and security systems that use Z-Wave wireless home control standard, you will need to buy additional Harmony 890 wireless Extenders.

Programming is fairly easy on the Harmony 890 remote. Harmony programs the remote when you connect it to your PC or Mac with the USB cable. Then you must complete the registration and questionnaire, and then choose your component list that explains the procedure for adding the equipment. Then hit the buttons that say "Watch TV," "Watch DVD" and "Listen to Music." For any new electronics, you will be required to enter each and every device. Also after completing the questionnaire, the software uploads the control codes to the 890. If you do have any problems, you can use the remote’s Help Keys which should help you fix the problem. In case there is a problem that you can’t fix then you may call or email the Logitech customer support.

The batteries last a long time and you should be able to go without putting them on the charger for a few weeks. However, most people will most likely leave it in the cradle anyway. The batteries last at least 2 weeks after fully charging it.

Buying the Harmony 890 is easy, the best prices are found at harmonyremotecontrols.

They range from standard long black to sleek ones; there are also the latest versions of touch screen remotes which program by themselves. All the models which have to be programmed have the same basic and easy steps.

If a person wants to program a remote, he/she is supposed to check how many devices his/her remote is capable of controlling. After checking the capacity of the remote any one of the devices which has to be programmed can be considered. Philips universal remote control has a set of codes for each remote control of different models. Each model has a unique code. Anyone of the devices that has to be programmed is selected. After the selection all the devices must be switched off and then the selected device alone is switched on manually.

After switching it on, the SETUP button in the remote is pressed and held down till the indicator light has stopped to flash and remains solid. Then the SETUP button is released. The MODE button is pressed for the type of the device such as DVD or TV which has to be programmed. After the MODE button is released the light gets illuminated. The code for the respective device is typed in the Philips universal remote control. The code is usually a four digit one. When any other button such as the volume control or the channel up button is pressed, and if the device responds to the buttons then it has been programmed successfully. If the buttons do not respond after entering the code, then the whole process has to be re-done after switching off the device. The process is repeatedly done until the device responds to the buttons.

If the code for the device is not listed in the code list then Philips universal remote control has a built in code search option. To make use of the code search option repeat the above process but instead of the SETUP button press the CODE SEARCH button. The channel button or the volume button is pressed to check whether the device is responding or no. This process may have to be repeated 300 times as every time the button is pressed the code search tries a new different code. When the button responds the MUTE button is pressed and the code is stored for the respective device.
Thus, Philips remote can be programmed.

The Voice Activated TV Remote Control is the most recent technology made available to the home automation and windows home media enthusiasts. Home media systems have developed to such proportions that you can now manage audio, TV programmes, home-movies, DVD's and images in your home library with a series of voice commands.

So, how does a Voice-enabled Remote Control work? The remote device relays your voice prompts to your Windows Home Media center via a built in microphone and sometime referred to as a 'Wireless Digital Audio link'. These means that you will be have to be in proximity to the remote control for it to register your voice prompts. Some of voice activated TV remote controls require that you tilt the remote at a certain angle in your hand but the better quality ones utilise advanced positioning technology with smart filters to determine when you are voicing a command and when you are chatting to people in the room. Certain basic commands which are commonly used include: 'play', 'stop', 'record' and 'skip'.

Essential features for a great Voice Activated TV Remote Control:

• Media recognition my name. (For example selecting a series, the season you want to view and episode number)
• Audio response to questions. (For example if you want to find out what the name is of a song that is playing the system will respond to a question with an audio response)
• A remote that switches easily between manual button pushing and voice control is handy for a multiple users with different preferences.
• Another aspect to consider with multiple users would be whether or not the remote can be customised to multiple user profiles.
• Another handy feature to consider is timeline control. (For example: a good voice activated remote control should be able to skip 1 hour and 15 minute ahead in a movie if the user commands it.)
• Compatibility is also a key issue to look for. Voice Activated TV Remote Controls with infra-red learning capabilities are handy to control other audio visual equipment on top of managing your Windows Home Media Center.

The advantages of voice activated remote controls for automating your Window Home Media system are easy to quantify once you know the specifications of the remote control itself. Look for online demos and videos (YouTube is great for this) to help you choose the combined technologies that work for you.

Have you just acquired remote control codes but are unsure how to get the best use out of it? Do you want one but don't know if it would be the right thing for you?

Have a look at the article below. We are sure it will point you in the right direction. Based on our feedback so far, it has helped hundreds of our readers. While you are here, have a look at some of the other articles as they, too, are filled with advice and tips on how to avoid the common mistakes.
Television Remote Controls: Understanding Some of the Options

Author: Christine Peppler

It is hard to imagine television without a remote control. Channel surfing really wouldn't be the same without them. Unfortunately, losing or breaking a remote before the demise of the television isn't unlikely. It's also probable, with the multitude of remotes lying around the average living room that an owner will decide to consolidate just for the sake of their sanity and get a remote that can control not only the television but other equipment as well.

Before television owners begin shopping for a new remote however they should consider how much they really want to spend. A very basic television remote can be had for around $12. On the other end of the spectrum, spending in the neighborhood of $1,000 is also possible.

Most television remote controls are IR/infrared, meaning that they communicate with a television via an LED which transmits an infrared signal. In order to function properly users must generally be within 30 feet and within line-of-sight of their television. These remotes won't be able to transmit the necessary signal to the television through a wall or around a corner no matter what the distance although in many instances this is not a concern to the average user.

Some satellite TV receivers, stereo systems, and home theater components use RF/radio frequency remote controls which communicate with devices via radio waves. RF controls have a greater range than IR controls. RF can transmit up to 100 feet away and offers the added benefit of being able to transmit through walls. One way that an IR remote can be "boosted" to allow it a greater transmitting range is to get an "RF extender". This does not change the fact that a person is using IR, it just gives them greater range.

If a person's goal is to consolidate their television remote with other AV remote controls then a universal remote should be considered. These remotes are capable of operating multiple devices, even those from various manufacturers. Very handy, but they will have to program in the command codes of each piece of equipment they want the device to control. Information on command codes is generally found in the owner's manual for the equipment. To save time, a "learning" type of universal remote is an option. These remotes are able to read signals transmitted by other remotes and to then begin transmitting those same signals without the user having to program the command codes.

A common complaint about the average television remote is that it is hard to use in the dark. A back lit keyboard can be useful in this situation. Another issue can be the difficulty of using a remote because of the sheer number of buttons on the face of it. A couple of options can help to address this issue. Some television remote controls use "macro commands" which allow the user to perform a series of commands with the push of a single button. For instance, a macro command could be set up to turn on the television, the DVD player, initiate play, turn on the speakers, etc. by hitting a single button. Remotes with LCD screens can also cut down on the number of buttons by displaying a limited number of icons on the display versus having a button for every function.

Television remotes today even offer various methods of input aside from pushing buttons. Touch screens, joysticks, and even voice command controls are available; for a price. Touch screens can be color or grayscale; grayscale of course helps hold the cost down. Higher priced remotes offer two way communication which allows the remote to pick up and display information from the device that it operates. For instance, such a remote could display information about the programming on a particular television channel while viewing other shows.

Like all electronics for the home, television remote controls are beginning to multitask and understanding all of the features takes a bit of research. Buyers simply need to assess what functions are important to them and how much money they really want to spend.

These buttons may vary from remote to remote. Just hold on the setup or the code search key for 5 - 10 seconds or till the light on the remote turns on. Again it depends on the different remotes that the light will blink or be steady.

If you are programming for your TV, press the TV button on the remote or whichever electronic device you are programming your remote for. Now use the numbers on your remote to enter the 3 or 4 digit code for the device. These codes are given in the manual given with the electronic gadget. If you have lost the manual, these codes are easily available on the internet too. Once you have found the code, enter it and you will notice that the light on your remote control has turned off. Now try using it to switch off your electronic device with the remote and if you can do that, your remote has been programmed.

As for the remote controls that come without the codes, the programming is a bit different and a little time consuming. After the light on the remote has turned on, start pressing the Up button for channels on your remote. You may have to do this many times, may be 5 - 10 minutes. As soon as the channel changes, your remote is programmed. Now turn your electronic device on and off from your remote to finish programming.

However, if you are not able to program your remote with the Up channel button, try it with the Power button on the remote. Press the button a few times till the device you are programming gets turned off. When it does get turned off, you have successfully programmed your remote control.

We will take a look at universal remote control in the following article. It is a good place to start if you are new to the subject. There is a lot more information available for those that want to make a more detailed study.
The Universal Truth About Universal Remote Controllers

Author: David H. Urmann

There is a difference between a universal remote controller and the typical remote controller. What sets the universal remote controller apart from the typical one is its ability to adapt to different signals.

Universal remote controllers are an advanced version of remote controllers. Typical remote controllers are designed to issue commands from a distance to a specific electronic apparatus. Universal remote controllers also serve the same function, but with the addition that it can be used with multiple types of apparatus. This is because of the universal remote controller's ability to adapt to and use any frequency or signal that might be used by a particular electronic signal receiving appliance.

There are two types of remote controller signals. These are the infrared and the radio frequency type. Infrared types of remote controllers must be aimed directly towards the target electronic device's infrared receiver for it to be able to communicate commands. The radio frequency type remote controller enables the user to control appliances that are out of sight, as long as it is in within range of the controller's radio signal. This is best used with electronic appliances that do not require visual attention such as when the user listens to their audio system or component.

Most of the Universal Remote Controllers available in the market are pre-programmed for a wide range of brands and products so the code for a specific brand of appliance must be established and emulated for the remote control to work. But with the advancements in technology, the self-learning type of universal remote controller was invented. The self-learning type of universal remote controller has the ability to search and identify the control signature signal of the target brand of electronic product.

There are high-end universal remote controllers that allow the user to control several appliances or features at the same time. For example, a person can go inside a room and with a touch of a button, turn on the lights, play some music and turn on the air conditioner all at the same time. Most of these remote controls have an LCD screen for easier programming and usage.

Having a Universal Remote Control is very convenient in the fact that it allows the user to require only one controller for almost all of their electronic appliances. There are many available brands and models of Universal Remote Controllers today. Several things must be taken into consideration when choosing a Universal Remote Controller. Testing the item and reading its specifications will be helpful in analyzing if the remote will be useful to one's needs. Keep in mind that a Universal Remote Controller's purpose is to provide convenience. Another factor in choosing one is that it will be used often. Comfort in holding the remote controller must be considered.

Check if the buttons are soft. If watching the television in the dark is a habit, it is preferable to get a controller whose buttons glow in the dark. You may want to use a radio frequency type of remote controller instead of an infrared universal remote control if most of the time spent is listening to the music for relaxation. This is since the remote does not need to be aimed directly at the receiver and its signal can penetrate barriers. A brand backed with a warranty will be helpful in decision making since it eliminates the worry of buying a defective product. But be aware that some warranties are not customer friendly. An excellent warranty will include a money back guarantee. It may take some time and effort to finally decide to choose a desired Universal Remote Control, but it may prove to make one's usage of electronics a breeze instead of a chore.
